adidas Originals | AREA3 | Unite Joburg Exhibition
As an extension of the adidas Originals’ Unite Joburg campaign that saw Danny Brown do an exclusive performance in Soweto, I worked with the ANDPEOPLE team to conceptualise and execute an exhibition that would activate AREA3 post the show.
The Unite Joburg Exhibition saw five Joburg photographers capture portraits of the people that unite Joburg. A unique style and involvement in different areas of Johannesburg were part of the criteria in choosing our photographers, which led me to bring Chris Saunders, Anthony Bila, Hanro Havenga, Stephanie O’Connor and Justice & Innocent Mukheli on board. They were each designated a suburb to shoot with the simple brief of capturing the people that make up those areas. Together the photographers and each of their subjects represented a broader perspective of Johannesburg through the different lives and scenes they live by.
My involvement included management of the artists and photography, spatial layout of AREA3, the design of each suburb's graphic cues, the hanging of artwork and curation of infographic information about the Unite Joburg campaign as a whole into one cohesive exhibition in AREA3.
